My Morning Walk to the Skytrain

Well, not much going on a Monday, so I thought that I would document my morning walk to the Skytrain. Big whoop! But you can also get an idea, even though mundane, of what I get to see on the way.

Street Overpass

First of all, let me begin by saying the place I’m staying in is located along Thanon Sukhumvit, a six-lane highway of sorts. Now that I’ve cut my commute time by two-thirds not having to take the songthaew from Thanon Pattanakarn, my lungs are thanking me; however, being near the multiple lanes of traffic is still not ideal! As a matter of fact, it makes crossing the street almost impossible, hence the foot bridge/overpass that you see in the photo above. There are lots of these in Bangkok. But of course, you take your time so as not to exert yourselves and to stay sabaay-sabaay.

Skytrain

This is the station at Onnut, a massive looming concrete monolith—all the stations look like this for the most part. Currently, this is the last station on the line, however an extension is in process and will be the Udomsook station. Note the traffic early morning traffic underneath.

Skytrain

The BTS line runs above ground. Likewise, there is an underground line called the MRT. I find the BTS to be a little more cheerful, as there’s more ridership in comparison to the MRT. Those underground stations are huge and seem empty.

Skytrain

Lots of stairs to climb everyday! I can’t help but break a sweat everyday with the humidity…

Skytrain Platform

And the platform with an oncoming train. All-in-all, it’s a very efficient, reliable system. No complaints here! Rides, depending on the kind of pass you have or if you have one, are less than a buck.
